Information on taking the Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety Welder Certification 

Written Test.

The written portion of the test is divided into 2 sections. The first part is closed book. There are 30 questions and you have 30 minutes to take the test. The questions are multiple choice.

The second part is open book and you must have the Structural Welding Code-Steel AWS D1.1(2008,2010 or newer) code book.This part of the test is 30 multiple choice questions and you have 1 1/2 hours to complete it. You are also required to write next to your answer where you found your answer in the code book.

Some helpful hints on preparing to take the test given to me by my teacher.

• Get sticky tabs and TAB chapters (clauses) on the side, Tables on top and Figures on bottom
• Make a photocopy of the index, it is way easier to look at the index and search through the book, then to go back and forth to the index in the back.
• Make flash cards so you remember the important tables and figures

I have made some practice tests one for the open book and one for the closed book sections of the test. The questions come from other online practice tests from the internet, my teachers practice tests, and from questions that are on the actual test.
